10-Bay Hybrid NVMe + SAS/SATA Storage

The key advantage of this R640 configuration is its 10 × 2.5-inch front drive system with up to eight NVMe drives. Dell documents an R640 configuration where eight NVMe drives are connected through CPU-direct PCIe connectivity while two SAS/SATA drives are connected through the storage-controller path.

This architecture makes the system suitable for workloads requiring high-speed NVMe storage while retaining SAS/SATA storage for operating systems, boot volumes, RAID storage or other enterprise workloads.

Dual-Socket Enterprise Platform

The PowerEdge R640 is built around a dual-socket Intel Xeon Scalable platform. Depending on processor generation, BIOS and configuration, the R640 supports compatible 1st and 2nd Generation Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

With 24 DDR4 DIMM slots, the platform is designed for memory-intensive virtualization, database, cloud, hosting and enterprise computing workloads.

Integrated Networking
